Event: Iron Aquascaper Competition 2 Hosted by Grand Valley Aquarium Club

Grand Valley Aquarium Club will be hosting their 2nd annual Iron Aquascaper competition. I was selected to be one of the aquascapers competing in this event. We will be aquascaping with 29 gallon aquariums equipped with a Fluval canister filter, high output T5 lighting, and plant substrate. These fully aquascaped setups will then be raffled off at the end of the night.

Takashi Amano Complete Works 1985-2009: A Resource for Inspiration and Aquascaping

In the planted aquarium hobby, there are quite a few approaches people can take when keeping planted aquariums. Commonly, there are collectors and farmers, which are enthusiasts who are into growing many species of plants, and then there are aquascapers, those who strive to create a piece of living art within an aquarium.

As a planted aquarium enthusiast myself, my early years in the hobby were dedicated mostly to growing and farming a variety of aquarium plants, which still continues today. However, throughout the years of being in the hobby, there was a couple times where I have attempted to do an aquascape, but due to not being satisfied with the outcome, these aquascapes were never really made an online presence.

Aquarium Design Group implements new Buyer Reward Program

I was given a press release from Aquarium Design Group that details the new buyer reward program they are implementing for their customers. Details are given below.

Houston, Tx, 03/04/2011 – As part of new plans for 2011 to re-innovate Aqua Design Amano product offerings in the United States, Aquarium Design Group (ADG) has implemented a new buyer reward program that is automatically applied to all ADGShop.com buyers.

This new program instantly adds and accrues points to customers and clients of ADA through ADGShop for money spent on product as a way to reward those who choose Aqua Design Amano products. The basic premise of the system works in the following formula:

  • Every dollar in product spent results in one point earned.

Video: Blue Ram Dwarf Cichlids

Blue Rams, Mikrogeophagus ramirez, are one of my favorite fishes to have. They are a South American dwarf cichlid and are known to be quite peaceful within a planted aquarium. When healthy, they display an array of vibrant striking colors that are a absolutely beautiful. Shown in the video below are a proven breeding pair of blue rams that currently have a batch of 18 young juveniles that are growing strong and healthy. Check it out!

This is my biggest planted aquarium to date. Since starting the planted aquarium hobby, one of my favorite things to do are growing different types of plants. I find it important to take the time to learn the way plants grow and a great way of doing that is setting up a collectoritis style planted aquarium. Allowing yourself to become more experienced with different species of plants will help you in the long run and help you determine what types of plants are best suited for your water conditions, equipment setup, and the duration of your aquascape. Some plants may grow faster than others and will require frequent trimming, whereas some plants may need a specific water parameter in order to thrive well. If you aren’t sure how well a plant will do or look in your aquascape, try growing it in a separate aquarium and find out how it grows for you.
